Recording your new address on your vehicle's registration certificate and on your driving licence. The RC side has a deadline almost nobody knows about: you are meant to apply within 14 days of the address changing. Both are online services on the MoRTH portals.

Who can apply
- Form 33 is the intimation that you have ceased to reside — or no longer have your place of business — at the address recorded in the certificate of registration, with effect from a stated date
- This is for an address change. If you have moved the vehicle to a different RTO's jurisdiction or to another state, that is a bigger job — you need a No Objection Certificate (Form 28) and re-registration, not just an address change.
- If the vehicle is under hire-purchase, lease or hypothecation, Form 33 is made in TRIPLICATE — the duplicate and triplicate copies, endorsed by the registering authority, are returned to the financier and to the registering authority from whose jurisdiction the vehicle is removed

Common questions
Is there a deadline to change the address on my RC?
Yes — MoRTH's guidance says to apply for recording the change in residence within 14 days of the address changing, in Form 33, under Section 49 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Rule 59 of the CMVR, 1989.
What documents do I need?
MoRTH's list: the application in Form 33, the certificate of registration, proof of the new address, a valid insurance certificate, a PUC certificate, and an NOC from the financier if the vehicle is hypothecated. Some states also want a smart-card fee, an attested PAN copy or Form 60/61, a pencil print of the chassis and engine number, and signature identification of the owner.
I moved to another state. Is this the right process?
No. An address change under Form 33 does not move your registration between jurisdictions. Moving the vehicle to a different RTO or state requires a No Objection Certificate in Form 28 and re-registration.
How do I change the address on my driving licence?
On Sarathi: select your state, then Driving Licence → Services on Driving Licence, enter your DL number and date of birth, and choose 'Change of Address'.
What does it cost?
The fee is the one specified in Rule 81 of the CMVR, 1989, and states may add a smart-card fee — MoRTH's service page does not state an amount. Check the figure on the payment step rather than trusting any published number, including ours.
