Goods Carriage Permit (State / National) — Maharashtra

Also known as: goods permit, transport permit truck, national permit goods, state goods carriage permit, goods vehicle permit Maharashtra

To carry goods for hire or reward you need a goods-carriage permit for the vehicle. A STATE permit lets you operate within Maharashtra; a NATIONAL permit lets you operate across states (minimum four contiguous states including the home state). You apply through the transport/permit module, presenting the RC, fitness certificate, insurance, PUC and operator's licence. Goods permits commonly run five years and depend on a valid fitness certificate throughout.

Common questions

Do I need a permit to carry my own goods?

Goods carried for hire or reward need a goods-carriage permit. Some own-goods situations have exemptions — confirm your case, but commercial goods transport needs a permit.

State permit or National permit?

A State Permit covers Maharashtra only; a National Permit covers multiple states (minimum four contiguous, including the home state). Choose by where you'll actually operate.

How long is a goods permit valid?

Commonly five years, but with recurring fees — annual for state permits and an annual authorisation for national permits. Fitness must stay valid throughout.
