Remove Hypothecation from RC (Form 35) — Maharashtra

Also known as: hypothecation removal, HP termination, remove loan from RC, Form 35, vehicle loan closure RC

When you finish paying off a vehicle loan, the bank's lien (hypothecation) stays printed on your RC until you formally remove it. Get a loan-clearance NOC and two copies of Form 35 from your financier, then file them at the RTO through Vahan to get a fresh RC marked 'HP terminated'. Do this promptly — a bank NOC has a limited validity, and you cannot sell or cleanly transfer the vehicle while the lien is still on record.

Common questions

Why remove hypothecation if I've already paid off the loan?

Paying off the loan doesn't automatically update the RC — the bank's lien stays printed until you file Form 35. Until then you can't cleanly sell or transfer the vehicle.

What do I need from the bank?

A loan-clearance NOC and two copies of Form 35 signed by the financier. The NOC is time-limited, so act promptly.

How much does it cost?

A modest fee (roughly ₹100–₹500 including a smart-card charge), varying by state.
