- Costly mistake —Spa, massage and skin services (tattoo, piercing) attract extra licensing beyond a plain hair-and-beauty salon — a health-trade licence with stricter hygiene/sanitary conditions and, in many municipalities, additional scrutiny or NOCs. Confirm exactly what your service mix triggers before signing a lease.
- If you retail or store cosmetics, Maharashtra may require FDA (Food & Drug Administration) registration for cosmetic storage/sale — separate from the salon licences. Check this if you sell products, not just provide services.
- Staff thresholds trigger extra obligations: employing more than ~10 workers can bring additional labour registrations into play, and as an employer you generally need Professional Tax registration in Maharashtra. Plan for these as you grow the team.
